Video Streaming

Stream live video from drones, surveillance cameras, and body cameras directly in ATAK. Support for RTSP, HLS, and RTMP protocols with AI-powered object detection and seamless map integration.

Live Video Integration

The Video Streaming module brings live video feeds into your tactical workflow. View drone reconnaissance, security cameras, and body-worn cameras alongside your map display, with automatic georeferencing and AI analysis.

📷 UAS Reconnaissance

During a search operation, a drone operator streams live video to all team members. The video appears in ATAK with the drone's position marked on the map. AI detects a heat signature, automatically creates a marker, and alerts nearby ground teams.

Supported Protocols

The module supports industry-standard streaming protocols, ensuring compatibility with most video sources from consumer drones to enterprise surveillance systems.

Protocol Use Case Features
RTSP IP cameras, professional drones Low latency, TCP/UDP options
HLS Web streaming, CDN delivery Adaptive bitrate, broad compatibility
RTMP Live broadcasting Push streaming, encoder support
WebRTC Real-time communication Ultra-low latency, browser support

AI Video Analysis

Optional AI analysis processes video frames in real-time to detect objects, track movement, and identify points of interest. Detections are converted to map markers for team visibility.

AI Detection Capabilities

Geospatial Metadata

Video from drones and other georeferenced sources includes metadata about camera position, orientation, and field of view. The module extracts this data to overlay the camera footprint on the map.

Metadata Element Source Map Display
Camera Position Drone GPS Drone marker on map
Gimbal Orientation Drone telemetry Camera look direction
Field of View Camera specs + altitude Viewshed polygon
Target Coordinates Calculated from center pixel Point of interest marker

Multi-Stream Display

View multiple video streams simultaneously in a grid layout. Perfect for TOC displays monitoring several feeds at once, or for comparing different angles of the same incident.

Layout Options

Recording and Playback

Capture video streams for after-action review or evidence documentation. Recordings include metadata for playback with synchronized map view.

Recording Features

Snapshots and Markers

Capture still images from video streams and create map markers with a single tap. The snapshot is attached to the marker for later reference or team sharing.

📸 Intelligence Collection

While reviewing drone footage of a suspicious vehicle, an operator pauses the video, taps "Create Marker from Frame," and the system captures the image, calculates the ground coordinates based on drone position and camera angle, and creates an intelligence marker visible to the entire team.

Bandwidth Adaptation

Video streaming adapts to available bandwidth. On limited connections, the system can reduce resolution or frame rate to maintain stream stability while preserving critical visual information.
